Technology in Action
1. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE THROUGH A-ISOMETER ...
What W. Bender started all those years ago for use in mining has become indispensable for many technical applications. Wherever safety requirements are particularly high, for example, in energy generation and distribution, in mines, hospitals or traffic engineering, state-of-the-art, differentiated insulation monitoring delivers preventive maintenance and offers reliable...
2. MATERIAL SOLUTIONS FACILITATE KEY ADVANCE
Clamason Industries manufactures two versions, left and right handed, of a curtain airbag inflator housing for the Jaguar X-Type and X-Type Estate models being assembled at Ford's Halewood plant in the UK. The inflator fits into the "C" pillar behind the rear passenger seat and inflates the airbag in the direction "back to front". The components, two per car, are supplied on a just-in-time...
3. AIRKNIVES BOOST DRYING SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE ...
Using an AirKnife supplied by Air Control Industries, it was demonstrated that by exhausting the water-saturated air efficiently from the drying zone drying times are reduced significantly. This is because there is not a build up of moisture laden air for the drying system to overcome. Consequently, energy is used more efficiently, again helping to reduce costs. Characteristics of AirKnives...
4. IR CAMERA TECHNOLOGY ENTERS THE SPORTING ARENA
Cedip Infrared Systems, specialists in thermal IR camera technology, working with BBG Sports (Melbourne, Australia) has developed a state-of-the-art system called 'Hot Spot' that is claimed will end all speculation surrounding a cricket dismissal. Trialed at the recent first Ashes cricket test match between Australia and England in Brisbane , by broadcasters the Nine Network...
5. PLASTIC BEARINGS REACH NEW HEIGHTS
67 year-old Indian aviator Dr. Vijaypat Singhania recently flew to 69,852 feet and set a new World Altitude record for a hot air balloon. British experts Flying Pictures Space managed the project from design concept to manufacture, pilot training, launch and recovery. igus injection moulded polymer bearings were used in the balloon's pressurised capsule, which was vital to reach these heights…
6. BEARING SERVICE CAME TO THE RESCUE
Revolvo's special bearing service came to the rescue recently, helping to safeguard nearly five generations of brewing excellence at Bathams Brewery. At short notice, Revolvo manufactured a special assembly for a Sparger arm, critical to the brewing process. The assembly comprises of a stainless steel threaded pipe with a special thrust bearing at one end. The bearing is a hybrid solution...
7. KEEPING PLANTS RUNNING. LITERALLY. ...Clearly, this gives the possibility of collisions and hence, there is a controller on each crane that must communicate continuously with the main controller. The system uses Ethernet protocol with infrared communications. In this way the position of each crane is always known. The controls and the software for the cranes were designed and installed by EEU using Yaskawa MP2300...
8. NESTING SOFTWARE REDUCES MATERIAL USAGE
Today's high raw material costs are forcing manufacturers across all industry sectors to look at ways of maximising the yield from their bought-in supplies. Nowhere is this more true than at Cameron Balloons, where the use of Alphacam nesting and manufacturing software has not only dramatically improved material utilisation, but significantly enhanced production throughput...
9. RFID TRANSPONDERS IN AUTOMATED PRODUCTION
After being filled and transported to the distributor and to the restaurant, how does a beer keg safely find its way back to the right place in the warehouse? A small Harting transponder makes it all happen by supplying the information necessary for perfect storage. RFID applications (Radio Frequency Identification) in transport and production logistics are increasingly...
