Industry News ContiTech builds new factory in China
ContiTech is building a new production site in the Chinese city of Changshu, 100 km northwest of Shanghai. Wu Weiguo, Vice Mayor of the Changshu Municipal Government of the South East Economic Development Zone industrial park, and Gerhard Lerch, chairman of the Executive Board of ContiTech, signed a corresponding letter of intent in Hannover. In the first construction phase, ContiTech is investing about €30 million, with construction getting underway in the third quarter of 2008. "For us, China presents a double opportunity: a booming sales market and a low-cost production location. We can take better advantage of these opportunities with the new site," says Gerhard Lerch, explaining the involvement in China. "By 2013, we want to have more than doubled our sales in the country and are targeting annual sales of some €250 million."
