Technology in Action
1. Polymer plain bearings for fish processing
Freshly caught fish are now frequently processed directly on board the fishing trawlers. State-of-the-art heading and gutting machines made by Baader process up to 32 fish a minute. The machine components, however, are exposed to an aggressive mixture of seawater and blood. Here the lubrication-free "iglidur" polymer plain bearings from igus prove to be very reliable…
2. Inspection of up to 2000 different circuit breakers
Global presence and high quality technology were the decisive criteria for Schneider Electric when it came to selecting a vision supplier. Cognex and its partner integrator Esox did a feasibility study and proposed an inspection solution that responded to the demands of the application. The Osiswitch Compact line at Télémécanique, a Schneider Electric brand, makes circuit breakers...
3. Power Station and calibration facility
Beamex have been contracted by Scottish and Southern Energy to supply their world-class calibration solution for Peterhead Power Station - Scotland's largest power station capable of creating 2407MW from North Sea Gas. Beamex has supplied their powerful Beamex MCS100 Calibration Workstation incorporating panel mounted pressure, electrical and temperature...
4. Handling cables at the Port of Oakland
Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has installed its Rheycord Basket Spreader (BS) 44C 12AWG cable in the basket spreader of a ship-to-shore crane at the SSA Terminals at the Port of Oakland. It is the first US installation for the cable, which is manufactured at the Nexans factory in Mönchengladbach, Germany. The Rheycord BS cable meets the demanding requirements...
5. Resistors in the Columbus space laboratory
The European Columbus laboratory is now in space, and precision resistors from the Isabellenhütte SMx series are on board. It is by no means easy to fulfil the stringent requirements set by aerospace and space organisations. Components must function reliably even when subjected to extreme influences. For example, the SMx series resistors for use in space can endure...
6. 10,000 CNCs in Europe in one year
With over two million installed CNC control systems and more than 50 years' experience in production automation, Fanuc is the worldwide market leader in CNC technology. Fanuc GE is also a force in Europe: in 2007 alone, the control specialist supplied over 10,000 CNCs. The 10,000th went with a Spinner SB-CNC precision lathe to bmk Baumann in Nuremberg, where it is now in continuous use...
7. Manual measuring system for the cylinder head test
The new digital gauges of the DK series and the new interface modules of the MG series for flexible multi-point measuring from Sony used for the cylinder head test shoulder this task. They apply the proven Magnescale principle: The combination of a scale with a magnetic pattern and a reading head with a magneto-resistive sensor reliably detects magnetic fields and converts...
8. More toothpaste thanks to Cleaning Solution
Thanks to the installation of the Series 1000 SCT system from Meech International, Colgate - Palmolive ( Guangzhou) has considerably improved production of its toothpaste packaging, a process that was hindered due to web surface contamination. It is inevitable in a busy factory environment that there will be dust and dirt in the atmosphere. However, this can become a serious production...
9. Motion control for the Diamond Light
Delta Tau, the company commonly regarded as setting the global benchmarks for precision motion control, has announced that it has been selected as preferred supplier for the third phase of development at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron ring in Oxfordshire. The Diamond Light Source welcomed it first users in February last year at which time seven beamlines were functional...
