Technology in Action
1. 60m robot produces railway vehicles
Instead of the supposed portal equipment, WBN is welding its modern passenger carriage assembly groups on robotic equipment with a 60 m long track, one of the longest in the product portfolio of Carl Cloos Schweisstechnik in Haiger. Fewer costs and significantly shorter construction times convinced the experts of WBN Waggonbau Niesky...
2. Power systems for biogas plants
Deutz Power Systems is a strong partner in the biogas market and offers custom-tailored solutions for biogas plants with a most compelling degree of profitability. The solution competency is demonstrated by the biogas plant in Pfullendorf, south western Germany: the own service team upgraded the TCG 2016 V12, which had been delivered in 2005, to the TCG 2016 B V12 biogas engine series...
3. Electric motors drive the production of pulp
WEG 's LV and MV ranges of electric motors and control gear are providing the drive for all mill and associated facilities in what is probably the world's largest ecologically sustainable project to produce Eucalyptus pulp. Representing an investment, to-date, of $1.25 billion, the Veracel project in Brazil is a joint venture between Aracruz Celulose, the world's largest producer of...
4. Handling systems helps the Le Mans tramway
Bouyer Manutention, a member of the Verlinde, was selected to install and put into service the handling systems in the maintenance centre for the Le Mans tramway. The special safety systems, combined with the reliability of the overhead cranes, made all the difference. The choice of the Le Mans Métropole was in favour of the Citadis, a tramway made by the French equipment manufacturer...
5. LED chandeliers bulbs at Buckingham Palace
LEDtronics use its skills in developing a unique method of illuminating chandeliers using light emitting diodes (LEDs). The project was undertaken at the request of The Royal Household, in an effort to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs. The centre room chandelier was nominated and all 32 twenty-five watt tungsten lamps were removed, and a low voltage...
6. Motorsport derived valves in other sectors
Following the successful adoption of the Moog E050 Miniature Cartridge Direct Drive Valve (DDV) by the Motorsport industry, Moog now offers this technology for servo valves and servo-proportional valves to provide the twin benefits of high performance and precision motion control in other industry sectors. The cartridge design permits high-density fitting for applications where...
7. Russian coal mine installs soft start
A Russian coal mine is set to become one of the most technologically advanced in the world, as it prepares to install an explosion proof soft start, for its massive conveyor system. It was designed and built by Sheffield-based Baldwin & Francis, which specialises in electrical systems for extreme environments, from an OEM kit of parts supplied by Soft Start of Great Yarmouth...
8. Hoists handle 1000 meter long pipes
An air-operated hoist from J D Neuhaus has been used for the handling of an assembled pipeline string of some 1000 metres in length. This involved the connection of individual pipeline sections, each eight metres long, to create a completed string weighing 30 tonnes, which had to be positioned within a mining shaft. The work was accomplished using a Profi 37 Ti hoist, part of a series on...
9. Restoring the bogies at the German railway
Deutsche Bahn's vehicle maintenance is conducted at 15 sites assigned to different product areas. In order to increase efficiency, and help secure the economic future of the facility, Jens Makat, head of Locomotive Manufacturing in Bremen, started searching for an alternative measurement tool. Only one measuring system was found that met all requirements: AICON's DPAInspect…
